Analysis: Hayes was a originally committed to Notre Dame back in the middle of the summer of 2010. Three months later though, Hayes had a major change of heart and flipped his commitment to rival Michigan. No one really expected it and it was seen as an “out of the blue” change of heart. For Hayes though, he’s always been a Michigan fan and felt better staying home as opposed to moving to South Bend. Hayes can be used as an all purpose back or as a running back because of his ability to catch the ball very well while having good feet and moves. His top end speed isn’t ideal, but is able to burst for long runs if given space. His vision is what sets him apart from other all purpose backs in this class though. One would assume since he’s not particularly a bruising back that he would struggle in traffic, but Hayes does the complete opposite, which makes him very valuable on any down. He’ll likely take a redshirt year with the Wolverines having a bevy of experience returning for the 2011 season, but look for Hayes to be a strong contributor for the Wolverines in the future.
