Stats: Morgan racked up 120 tackles as a junior at West Ottawa HS.

Analysis: Desmond made his official visit to the University of Michigan on December 10 while Rich Rodriguez was still the man leading the Wolverines on the gridiron. A couple days later on the 13th, Morgan made a call to Rodriguez and verbally committed to the program. The firing of Rich Rod and the hiring of Brady Hoke did not lead Morgan to veer from his commitment to the Maize and Blue, and an hour ago he posted on Facebook that he has signed and faxed his LOI.
Morgan is one of 12 defensive players that has signed an LOI to play for Michigan so far, and anyone that follows UM football knows that defense was its weakness last season. Any and all help on the defensive side of the ball will help, but Morgan does not plan to just be any old inside linebacker for the Wolverines. He may not be in impact player right away, as he will most likely red shirt his first season in Ann Arbor. But, as he grows in size and football skills and knowledge, he may be the one making plays and helping Michigan's defense get back to what it once was when Hoke and Greg Mattison were members of the coaching staff in the 1990's.
Just watch the video posted above and one can see Morgan's play making ability. He plays with enthusiasm and reaches the ball quickly, making big hits and sure tackles. 6'1", 225 lbs may be big enough to play inside linebacker on the high school stage, but Morgan will need to get in the weight room and put on some size to aid himself on the Big Ten college gridiron.
I don't foresee Desmond getting time on the field in 2011, but a red shirt season will help him gain experience to aid his game for the 2012 season and beyond. Remember this kid's name. You will be hearing his name called and seeing him making plays down the road in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

  1. Des is a really solid football player, quick and has a nose for the ball. Having watched him for the last couple of years I can tell you that he has a lot of talent, most of it still untapped. Give him a little bit of time and he'll be starting on D. He's also a solid option at fullback.
